Hi Everyone,
It’s time.
It feels so weird to say that this is officially the last post before the walk gets underway tomorrow. The months of writing blogs, training, and so much else have brought us to this moment. I’m beyond ready.
Today we did some last-minute prep. Among other things, we visited the Porto Cathedral where we will begin our walk. There, we got our pilgrim passports to document our journey in order to receive our Compostelas in Santiago. We also got some other essentials and repacked our backpacks to make sure we’re ready for our early-morning start tomorrow.
Something very interesting is happening today in Porto — the festival of Saint John the Baptist, the most important day of the year for this city. The streets are packed with people hitting each other on the head with squeaky plastic hammers (we still don’t get the symbolism). There will be fireworks tonight over the Douro River. Everyone is eating fried sardines and drinking Super Bock (Portuguese beer). We honestly had no idea about this when we booked the trip, but it feels like a friendly and auspicious send-off.
Please send us your good thoughts and keep reading my daily Camino posts. I’ll let you know how tomorrow goes.
Until then!
Enjoy AJ!
